Jeff Shesol, author of “Supreme Power: Franklin Roosevelt and the Supreme Court.”
A New York Times Notable Book of the Year, described by Doris Kearns Goodwin as a “stunning work of history.” This event isn’t just for court buffs. Shesol shows how FDR’s fight to control the court changed America and resonates to this day.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20
Lorelei Brush, a fearless scholar braved more than two years in the northern part of Pakistan — including the dangerous Northwest Province — as head of a project to re-establish schools destroyed in the 2005 earthquake. Promoting the concept of thinking for oneself, almost unheard of in Muslim schools, she developed curricula that spread to more than 2,000 institutions. “Pakistan: The Struggle Between Fundamentalism and Good Education” couldn’t be more timely or riveting.

Dayton Duncan, writer and producer of THE NATIONAL PARKS, AMERICA’S BEST IDEA, is an award-winning author an documentary filmmaker. The 2009 PBS series won two Emmy awards – one for outstanding non-fiction series (Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan) and one for writing (Dayton Duncan). His nine other books include HORATIO’S DRIVE and LEWIS & CLARK. He has collaborated on all of Ken Burns’ films for twenty years as a writer, producer, and consultant.
